Hey friend! Hope you are having a great week! I know the market is a little doom and gloom right now but companies are still hiring! My team is still very busy! The only difference is we aren’t seeing companies hiring like a bajillion people at one time anymore. It’s much more calculated hiring like 1–5 positions at a time (which it should have been all along if you ask me). If the job search is wearing you down, I get it. Please know I am here for you! I hope these tips help you separate yourself during an upcoming interview!

  • Know what the company actually does that you’re interviewing with lololol
  • Ask questions and come with questions prepared — check out my website www.vaco.com/taylor with some questions you can ask hiring managers!
  • If you don’t know something, don’t just stop the conversation. Try to continue to dialogue e.g. ‘I don’t know this but I have done something similar to this so let me tell you.’
  • Bring some dang energy and enthusiasm during the conversation — most folks are just meh during an interview and sleep walking through it. DON’T!!
  • Don’t ask off the wall questions that aren’t relevant to the role. Everyone loves personality, but when I ask you if you have any questions and you ask me what kind of mythical creature I wish I could turn into, at best it will appear forced and at worst it will make me wonder if you can’t stay on topic and distract easily.
  • Interviewing, like anything else, takes preparation and practice. Anyone can be good at interviewing by properly preparing. It helps tremendously with the nerves too.
  • Look up if anyone from that department/company has spoken at an event and watch it on YouTube (usually 20–40mins). It gives you something to talk about and shows you really actually care about potentially getting this job.
